Makers of Tomorrow Series

I've spent the last few weeks learning, meeting and listening to some very clever people doing extraordinary things. These are the growers, designers, and thinkers shaping a more ethical, sustainable future, photographed in the places where they create and thrive.

My Makers of Tomorrow photo series brings their faces and voices to the forefront, showing how creativity and responsibility can stitch together a better future.

Uluu - Acts like plastic. Made from seaweed, not fossil fuels. Uluu offers real solutions to three of the world’s biggest environmental challenges; plastic pollution, climate change and ocean health.

Uluu's materials are made by fermenting seaweed with saltwater microbes, in a process similar to brewing beer. The result looks and feels like plastic but is biodegradable, non-toxic and doesn’t release microplastics. It’s climate positive at scale and improves the health of our oceans.

“Seaweed gives us a way to replace plastic without hurting the planet. Our materials look and feel like plastic while helping to repair, rather than harm, our marine environments. We can produce Uluu with any kind of seaweed, including the handful of species already farmed at scale around the world.” - Uluu bioprocess lead Dr Luke Richards
